Serving All, Labouring Together
Matthew 5, Verses 13-16
We have re-launched our food hamper and support ministry under the SALT banner - Serving All, Labouring Together. The inspiration for this title has been drawn from Matthew 5 where Jesus said we are to be the 'salt of the earth'.
We believe we have been called to respond to the challenge Jesus laid before us in Matthew 25 V 34-46 to help those in need from our local communities where we have been placed.
Working in conjunction with Social Services we will respond to referrals where families are in genuine need. Each referral will be treated on a case by case basis. Small teams of volunteers will will visit with the familes referred to deliver food and reach out to them in friendship, support, fellowship and witness.
Referrals can also be taken directly from members of the congregation who are concerned about neighbours, colleagues or fmaily members in our local community who are struggling and need help to feed themselves or their families.
All our support is offered on a non-judgemental and totally confidential basis.
To work efficiently and provide the greatest amount of benefit to the local community we have joined forces with a number of local food bank initiatives in the East Belfast area. We have established relationships with Dundonald Food Bank and the Dee Street based Food Larder. We will provide donations to both organisations and in return will have access to their food hampers that will allow us to answer the referrals within our community area.
We need your help to support our ministry. There are many ways you can help, namely:
Volunteer - to help as back up for one of the delivery teams or help with our fundraising events (see Coffee Bar below)
Donate Food - non perishable food items can be brought to church on the 1st Sunday of each month as a gift offering and donation.
Donate Money - even small frequent amounts are of great value and you can also Gift Aid your donations to maximise the tax benefit.
Coffee Bar - proceeds from Coffee Bar sales will be allocated to SALT on 1st Sunday of each month. Every cake or cup of coffee bought will count! Volunteers tp help with the Coffee Bar from 8-10pm always welcomed.
Pray - a SALT prayer team will meet once a month after church on Sunday evenings and your supoort there is essential.
